Are Peopoll results accurate? How the count works

A Peopoll result is a plain count: every answer from a signed-in account, counted once, never weighted, never promoted, with the number of answers shown on every result and every slice. That is what makes it trustworthy, and it is also what it is not: a representative survey. Both halves are below.
One account, one answer
Every answer comes from a signed-in account and is counted once. Change your mind and the old one is replaced, not added.
No answer, no insights
Nothing is revealed until you have answered. The server enforces it, not just the screen.
Nothing weighted
The number is the number. No adjusting to look like a census, no estimates.
Nothing promoted
No one can pay to move a count or to put a poll in front of you.
The count on every slice
Filter by gender, age, country, continent: the number of answers in that slice is always shown.
Every poll shows its age
The result tells you when the poll was asked and how the answers came in over time.
How is each person counted once?
You sign in to answer, with email, Google or Apple. That is the whole anti-gaming system, and it is more than most polls have: a poll link counts anyone who opens it, as often as they like. On Peopoll an account answers a poll once. Change or remove your vote and the count updates; it never double-counts. There are rate limits on asking and commenting so one account cannot flood the feed, a profanity filter, and reports that are read by people.
Are the results weighted or promoted?
Survey companies adjust their raw numbers to look like the population. Peopoll does not, on purpose. The result you see is the people who answered, counted, and the app tells you how many that was. Nobody can pay to promote a poll, and the Explore feed's ordering never touches the numbers themselves: it surfaces polls people are actively answering, and the count inside each one is untouched.
Why is the count shown on every slice?
The most useful number on any result is the small one next to the group name. Split a poll by women aged 18 to 24 in France and you will see how many of them answered, right there. A slice of 1,200 is a finding. A slice of 9 is a curiosity. Peopoll shows you which one you are looking at instead of hiding it, and never suppresses a slice to make the rest look cleaner.
Is a Peopoll result a representative survey?
It is not a representative survey. The people who answered are the people who use Peopoll and chose to answer that question, and they are not a random sample of a country. So read it the way it is meant: this is what these people think, counted honestly, and here is how many of them there are. That is a more useful thing than a weighted estimate pretending to be everyone, and it is a less grand one. We would rather be the first.
