Why Peopoll
A story poll disappears in a day and tells you nothing about who answered. A poll link counts anyone, including the same person twice. A survey is work, and the results belong to whoever sent it. Peopoll is the fourth thing: a poll that keeps its result, counts each person once, and shows you the split by country, age and gender.

A story poll is the quickest poll there is, which is the point of it, and it disappears in a day, which is also the point. It tells you what your followers tapped, as a total, and nothing about who they are. If the question mattered, the result is gone before the argument starts.
A poll link is easy to share and easy to game. Most count anyone who opens them, as many times as they like. There is no split by who answered because nobody knows who answered. They are fine for picking a restaurant; they are not a way to find out what people think.
A survey can ask anything and cross-tabulate everything, if you build it properly and people finish it. The results go to the person who sent it, not to the people who answered. It is the right tool for research and the wrong tool for a question you want a hundred strangers to answer tonight.
